10 Tips to fletch arrows like a Pro Shop All to often we have customers complain about arrows they fletched having their fletchings come off. This is a very correctable situation. Below we will provide you with 10 easy tips to assure this does not happen to you. 1). Wipe shaft clean using alcohol or hot water. Always make sure shaft is completely dry before proceeding. 2). Use a high quality fletching jig and glue. Match the glue to the fletchings you are using. We prefer fast set glue and jigs by AAE or Bitzenburger. 3). Use glue in a solid bead not a dot fashion. What this means is do not put a bunch of dots of glue on the fletch, instead use a solid bead the glue along the vane/feather. 4). Use glue sparingly. Apply a thin coat, less means more. 5). Place the fletch squarely on the shaft. Do not “rock” or wiggle the vane/feather in place. 6). Allow glue enough time to set before removing jig. This generally takes about 15-20 seconds. 7). Remove shaft from jig and wipe off excess glue. 8). Place shaft back in the jig. Make sure when rotating the shaft the shaft is locked in proper position prior to applying the next fletch. 9). After all fletchings are complete apply one small dab of glue on the tip end of the fletch. This will help the fletch stay in place and not tear from wind resistance. 10). Allow all arrows to set for a minimum of 1 hour prior to shooting. |
